At first glance it seems like the new reward program for Starbucks members is awesome! 2 stars for every dollar spent! That’s great!! NO, it’s not…

Now you need 300 stars ($150 worth of Starbucks) to reach Gold member status and get a free item.

And after that, it will take 125 stars ($63 worth of Starbucks) to exchange for the next free item.

The new change MIGHT benefit you, if you spend lots every visit. But for those of us who buy the 2 to 3 dollar coffees only, it will take many visits to get enough stars.
