In 2013 the city council planned to build a large water feature in Hawrelak park. At that time the estimated cost was $3.3 million. The project is now estimated at $5.1 million.

  • Now the council has voted to scrap the project.

  • It’s gotten away from us,” Mayor Don Iveson said. “We’ve changed where we’re going to put it, we’ve pushed it back, the scope of it has changed and the cost of it’s gone up.”

  • If you’re upset about the decision to scrap it, keep in mind that the council never said it was a bad idea! Just that it’s not where they want the city’s money going right now.
