This is no joke, there are too many goldfish in the storm water reservoir in St. Albert.

Nope…that’s not their natural habitat. Why are all these goldfish showing up?? The best explanation (that has been subtly hinted at by The City of St. Albert) is that too many people are flushing their dead and live fish down the toilet.  And the live ones are surviving, and multiplying!

The City Of St. Albert has started a ‘Goldfish Management Program’ that says ” The City would like to advise that anyone who can no longer care for their domestic goldfish should speak to their local pet retailers or veterinarian about donating their fish to an aquarium or pond owner or learn about humane disposal.”

Why exactly are the goldfish a bad thing?? If they get through the drains they may start invading the Sturgeon River, which is home to other species. The presence of the goldfish could disrupt the current ecosystem.

at the moment, there’s a bunch of live goldfish, swimming around in St. Albert. AND there’s also some little dead floaters, but those will be cleaned up very soon.
