Have you noticed the large amount of ants this year??

The good news about bugs for Edmonton, we won’t have as many mosquitoes. The bad news, this heat is the prime climate for ant colonies to grow bigger and bigger!

The city is literally crawling with them“, says Edmonton-based entomologist Mike Dolinski to the CBC, “We had that hot, dry spring and it got the ants off and running pretty early in the summer and they just blew up,”

You may instinctively grab pesticides in an effort to get rid of the ants, but those sprays, powders and foams contain toxins that are harmful to children, plants and animals.

Apparently one of the best ways to get rid of ants is to flood your lawn and let the grass grow long for a while. Ants can’t swim very well and they struggle to crawl in longer grass.

If you know any other ways let us know!! Don’t want too many ants in the pants while chilling on the deck now do we ;) (someone just gave us this tip: “Borax and icing sugar mix. 50/50. 48 hours you will have no ant problem”)

On the bright side though, a lot of ants means healthy decomposition of dead animals, other pests and composts!
