On February 6- 16 2015, 40 brave and amazing hockey players challenged the Guinness World Record to achieve the rights as the titleholders of The World’s Longest Hockey Game.

During this 10 day game, players, referees and volunteers raised money for the Alberta Cancer Foundation to support the purchase of a new PET-MR for the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton.

“It was a long wait, but we were never really worried about it,” said Saik, of setting the record for the World’s Longest Hockey Game for the fifth time. “There are a lot of things that they have to go over and check. Somebody’s signature doesn’t look the same as it did the first time, or something like that. They go through every comment, statement and signature from 11 full days of play. I’m guessing there was more than 1,000 of those. There was a lot of back and forth. It’s actually a bit of a nightmare. It was actually my sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Brenda Martin, who look after all of that and have been dealing with this for a year-and-a-half. I need to say thank you to them. It’s good to have it all over with and officially have the new record again.” – Reports Sherwood Park News (read their full article and interview here.)

Take a look at a story CITY did on the game a while back! 🙂

It should be noted Brent Saik is now looking to do the World’s Longest Baseball game next! *
