There has been an increase in the amount of Black Widow spiders in imported grapes (Usually from California) during the fall harvest season.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection agency, finding the spiders in grapes has always been a usual occurrence, but it’s even greater of an occurrence come September.

The food agency warns consumers to double check their fruit, and that if you DO find a spider, take the entire package of fruit and place it in a sealed bag and bring it to the local Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The Black Widow is characterized by: black shiny body, about 6 mm long with a red hourglass shaped mark on the underside of the abdomen.
