Sexually transmitted infections such as  chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, are becoming resistant to antibiotics.

This news is causing health officials to sound the alarm that these STI’s can cause infertility, and serious illness to the point of death.

Apparently what happens is that patients who unknowingly have an STI who are getting treated for something such as strep throat, for which the meds can also treat STI’s, and the patient DOESN’T completely finish taking their prescription, then the weak STI bugs die off but the stronger ones get even stronger.

From this news we can gather that OBVIOUSLY you need to wear protection, and also make sure to complete your prescribed treatments. AND you should probably get tested on a regular basis. This is all stuff you already have been told, but the health officials are extremely persistent that if untreated these superbug STI’s could become very dangerous and harmful.

Global news has a great article that explains the Drug-resistant STIs. You can read that here: http://globalnews.ca/news

(Since we aren’t Doctors and can’t explain these things as well as a professional can)
