Last night / early this morning, it was announced that Donald J Trump has won the electoral votes and is now the new President of The United States.

During the election Canada’s Immigration Site crashed, and #Canada became one of the top trending hashtags on Twitter.

Mayor Don Iveson said in a statement to the CBC that the sudden interest in Canada from Americans, kind of instills a sense of pride.

“I think that inspires pride in Canadians both here and abroad,” he said. “[Also] intrigue from Americans who are looking maybe for a different political culture, looking over the border at Canada with some envy.”

“So we invite them with open arms.”
