You’ll recognize Janet Wright as Brent Butts mother in Corner Gas, where she played a sarcastic character with a boatload of great one liners that made the chemistry between her and other characters simply hilarious.

Wright’s character Emma Leroy was consistently on the hit Canadian sitcom, which ended its six-season run in 2009, and returned with a big-screen adaptation in 2014.

Wright was also the co-founder of Saskatoon’s Persephone Theatre.  And she performed at practically every major theatre company in Canada.

Some other achievements include winning best actress Genie Award in 1992 for “Bordertown Cafe.”

Winning the best supporting actress in a dramatic program / miniseries award in 2003 for “Betrayed.”

Wrights film credits include: “The Perfect Storm” (opposite George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg) plus TV appearances on series “Dark Angel,” “The King of Kensington” and “The Beachcombers.”

Our hearts go out to her family, friends and co-stars. Rest in peace Janet Wright.
