If you had a real tree for Christmas this year, the city of Edmonton will be collecting them on TUESDAY JANUARY 10th.

To make it easier for workers, the city asks that your tree is placed un-bagged on it’s side near where you usually put garbage (Curb or alley), by 7:00 am.

According  to the city, the trees will be picked up within three weeks – not necessarily on residents’ scheduled waste collection days though.

Have a REALLY BIG tree? Extra-large trees must be cut into six-foot lengths.

Also note that decoration have to be OFF! (Should be a no brainer, don’t be a waster!).

If you live an an apartment, you’ll have to check your landlords rues about leaving real trees on the curb. The city instead suggests taking your tree to any recycling depot or eco station.

Another option is donating your tree to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, which accepts natural trees for animals in their care.

And finally, if you REALLY don’t want Christmas to be over yet, you can hold onto that tree for as long as you want! But don’t blame anyone but yourself when your house starts to smell like decomposing pine….:)

Happy January!
