‘Galway Girl’ is the third single from Ed’s album Divide (following ‘Shape of You’ and ‘Castle on the Hill’).

The music video was shot in West Ireland and fans took to social media to post pictures from the set.

The music video stars Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan (who was nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ in 2007 for the movie Atonement).

Ed called Saoirse as a “phenomenal talent” in an interview with RTE 2FM’s Eoghan McDermott show.

He added, “It was like a really phenomenal thing to watch, I’ve never really seen a young actor or actress that good. She’s really talented…It’s kind of weird because I was shooting some of the video myself, there are some points when I’m holding the camera and she just… off screen is normal and just like a cool person then as soon as the camera goes on she just turns… it’s amazing to watch.”

‘Galway Girl’ represents a little rebellion from the singer because, as he put it back in March during an interview with Zane Lowe of Beats 1, Everyone at the label, including my manager, are so anti folk songs.”

Ed elaborated on the label’s hesitancy surrounding the song in an interview with The Guardian, My argument was always: well, the Corrs sold 20million records…The label would say, ‘Oh the Corrs, that was years ago,’ but who’s tried it since the Corrs? There’s a huge gap in the market, and I promise you that in two years’ time there will be a big folk band that comes up that’s pop, and that will happen as a result of labels being like: ‘Oh s**t, if he can put a fiddle and uilleann pipe on it, then we can try it as well’.”

Nonetheless, the song found its way onto Divide and is definitely fan favourite and now we have a music video for it! Check that out above!
