Word on the street is, Drake DIDN’T submit his More Life album for consideration at the 2018 Grammys.

According to Billboard, “A person close to the nomination process, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person was not allowed to publicly talk about the topic, said the multi-platinum rapper did not submit More Life for album of the year or best rap album. The person also said Drake did not submit any of the songs from the album to categories like song of the year, record of the year or best rap song.”

More Life was released back in March and it went straight to No. 1 on the Billboard charts.  The album has sold more than 2 million copies (based off of single sales, streams and album sales).  Drake once described More Life to be more of a mixtape rather than an album and it includes ‘Fake Love’, ‘Passionfruit’, ‘Portland’ and ‘Blem’.

Grammy nominees in 83 different categories will be officially announced on November 28 however, at this point Drake will only earn nominations for songs where he was ‘featured as a guest’ on.

Drake has previously won three Grammys and he has been nominated for 35 Grammys in total.  He won ‘Best Rap Album’ for his 2011 album, Take Care.  He also won ‘Best Rap Solo Performance’ and ‘Best Rap Song’ for Hotline Bling.

However, there might be a reason why he didn’t attend this years ceremony and why he didn’t submit his latest album.  Billboard explains, “Like many in the hip-hop community including Jay-Z and Kanye West, Drake has felt that the Grammys haven’t properly rewarded the genre when it comes to its top categories, where rappers are competing with country, pop and rock performers. A rap tune has never won song of the year or record of the year, and Lauryn Hill and Outkast are the only rap-based acts to win the coveted album of the year prize.”

And Drake isn’t the only artist who feels like this.  Frank Ocean previously made a statement when he didn’t submit his music for the 2017 Grammys and also Justin Timberlake.  In 2013, Justin made a huge comeback and didn’t even earn a Grammy nominations so he too skipped the 2014 Grammys.

The 60th annual Grammy Awards will take place on Jan. 28, 2018 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
