Happy Halloween Weekend ya’ll !

Whatever Halloween shenanigans you’re getting up to this weekend, make sure you creep by one of these haunted hot spots. Even if you just drive by, because you don’t have the guts to go in… it’s still totally worth it.

To be honest I wasn’t sure if Edmonton even had haunted areas, I was trying to think back on the cities history and considering it’s relatively young I wasn’t sure this would be YEG’s area of expertise, but I was wrong!

La Boheme Restaurant Bed & Breakfast

This is my personal favourite, I think the building is incredibly gorgeous so the fact that it’s haunted makes me kind of sad, but it’s so fitting at the same time! So the haunting back story on this place is pretty wild, it was once a luxurious apartment building and the owner of the building at the time was said to have murdered his wife in one of the rooms. She was also co – owner of the building, he murdered her in an act of a jealous rage and then cremated her body in the basement of the building. Guests and employees of the B & B say still to this day that sheets will get tugged and pulled off beds during the middle of the night, lights flickering constantly, and you can even hear what sounds like a body being dragged down the hallways. OKAY THEN.

Charles Camsell Hospital

This building is considered to be one of Alberta’s most haunted sites, the former Jesuit College turned TB sanitarium has been abandoned and closed since the early 90’s. However, there have been many reports of people walking by living in the residential area that say they have feelings of being watched from the windows above, as well as hearing cries and screams. Edmonton paranormal investigators made a trip inside in 2005, they said to have witnessed powerless elevators moving on their own throughout the different floors, and strange noises coming through their walkie talkies. I drove past there the other day just to creep on it, yeah it’s freaky don’t do that lol.

The Firkins House – Fort Edmonton Park

So this is probably one of the creepiest back stories, this house was originally occupied by the Firkins family in 1912, however Historians say they can’t connect the hauntings with the family. Many people touring the house have said a ventriloquist doll suddenly materializes in the cupboards, it’ll be chilling there and then when they turn to look again it’s gone. A little boy has also been seen wandering the house, and objects have been said to fall off the shelves randomly in the kitchen on their own.

Walterdale Playhouse Theatre

This haunting is actually kind of a cute story. I know that sounds weird but just hear me out! Although this is a theatre now, it was once an old firehall. A ghost apparently that goes by the name Walt, has been spotted moving around props, and wandering in the halls and helping people up the stairs. Historians think this is the ghost of an old volunteer fire fighter!

These are just a few of my favourite haunted hot spots in Edmonton, make sure you check them out this Halloween! – @mariah.mae
