Vancouver natives Young Bombs are this month’s ‘One To Watch’ artist!

Young Bombs consists of lifelong friends and musicians Martin and Tristan, whose musicianship dates back to their high school days.  Over the years, Martin and Tristan eventually became ‘two of the industry’s hottest remixers,’ with 100 million streams accumulated in just four years.

 

Tristan explains, “Everything we do as Young Bombs stems from the fact we’re two friends on a journey.  We’re just doing what we love, and we’re happy to do so as a team.  Martin adds, “We also want our music to take you somewhere.  Maybe it puts you in a good mood or helps you forget what you’re going through. We’re all in it together.”

 

 

The story goes – both Tristan and Martin initially crossed paths while they were both kids in local bands.  Tristan recalls, “Martin could play five times faster than any drummer I’d ever heard.”  It was then, following a four-hour conversation on the phone that would lead Tristan and Martin to Young Bombs.

 

From Vancouver, the duo moved to Los Angeles where they became a backing band for a pop artist.  Once that ended, both Tristan and Martin moved back to their home city and worked day jobs and composed jingles and even landed a Pizza Hut gig.  Tristan says, “We’ve been writing for years and both play piano and guitar.  We can produce from top-to-bottom. We’ve been riding together for so long we can read each other’s minds, and the cerebral connection is really important. There are no egos. It’s always about the best song. Plus, Martin brings great hair and natural curls I will never have, he laughs. Martin adds that “Tristan has the most chiseled jaw you’ll ever see.”

 

By 2018, Young Bombs had 53 remixes to their name – from Nick Jonas to Lady Gaga, Alessia Cara, Selena Gomez and more.  They even performed at massive music festivals like Lollapalooza, the Billboard Hot 100 Festival, Ultra and Firefly Music Festival.  And we can’t forget about tours – they became supporting acts for The Chainsmokers, Diplo and Alesso.

As far as the remixes, Martin explains, “We had an emotional connection to.  “We were really excited to do these tracks as they spanned so many different genres.  By doing so, we found a way to tie different sounds into one package of originals, put our stamp on it, and say, ‘This is who we are. This is our DNA’. After doing remixes for so long, it felt like time to propel the next chapter of our story.”  Tristan admits, “We’d been working on our project all along, but we finally got the sound to the point where we felt like we could make a statement.  We were able to make something that spoke to us lyrically, melodically, and emotionally.”

The duo agrees, “We’d love to inspire people.  When we loved bands as kids, we’d buy all of their albums, go to their shows, and hang their posters up. We want to give the same feeling to the next generation and maybe inspire them to pick up a laptop or a guitar. Hopefully, we can soundtrack their journeys too.”
