COVID-19

Alberta reported 273 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday along with 16 more deaths adding to a new total death toll of 1,843. There are now 4,675 active cases in the province, with 324 patients being treated in hospitals and 53 patients occupying ICU beds.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the earliest a decision on easing or tightening COVID-19 restrictions will be made on Monday, March 1, and they will be planning on reopening sometime during the following week. Hinshaw also says that it seems like cases in Alberta are plateauing, with no significant increase or decrease in the numbers over the past couple weeks.

The Edmonton Catholic School Division has announced that online schooling will continue into 2022. Most students will have the option to do their schooling online or in person at the school. Online instruction will be an available option for all students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Canada will see its largest shipment yet of COVID-19 vaccines, with 640,000 arriving in the country this week.

Fireball

Yesterday, many Edmonton residents witnessed the dark sky light up for just a second as a meteor entered the atmosphere and illuminated the province as it burnt up.

A University of Alberta researcher suggested the meteorite seemed quite large and scientists are hopeful that something landed. It will take them a few days to analyze their data and find out where the fireball entered the atmosphere and where it landed.

Head to the KiSS 91.7 Facebook to see a collection of footage caught of the meteorite.

Thin Ice

Edmonton officials are warning residents to be weary of thin ice for both people and their pets after a dog fell through the ice at Hermitage Park yesterday. Fire and Rescue responded to the call  and the dog is doing just fine now.

Fire and Rescue says if you see someone fall through thin ice, call 911 and keep your eyes on where they are. The most important part is that you do not go on to the ice or into the water in an attempt to help. You can put your own life at risk and make the situation even worse.
