HBO has just released the very first trailer for their new documentary that follows the life of Tina Turner. Led by Academy Award-winning filmmakers Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin, the feature length documentary will touch on the entire life of Turner, but mainly focuses on her solo career during the 1980s, when she returned to the stage after experiencing personal problems and going through a divorce with her then husband. This period in her career is known by many as one of the greatest revivals in music history.

“Tina” will be available on HBO on March 27, 2021.

“Tina” is the third portrayal of Turner’s life after 1986’s  I, Tina” and a 1993 film called “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” where actress Angela Basset plays the legendary singer. Basset is one of the many interviews in the HBO film along with Oprah Winfrey, and Tina’s husband Erwin Bach. Despite having multiple films already based on Turner’s life, HBO is using never-before-seen footage that dates back to 60 years ago, audio tapes, Tina’s personal photos, and all new interviews with the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ herself.

Turner also wrote an autobiography titled, “Tina Turner: My Love Story” that released in September of 2019.

This month, Tina was also nominated to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for a second time. If she wins, Turner will be the second female in history to enter the Hall of Fame twice after Stevie Knicks did it in 2019.
