COVID-19

Premier Jason Kenny addressed the province yesterday and announced that Alberta is ready to start a modified version of the stage 2 re-opening. He says this decision comes after hospital patient numbers dropped down to 257.

Indoor fitness centres and libraries will be easing their restrictions with modified rules. Exercising at indoor gyms will require an appointment as drop-ins are still not allowed. You can workout unsupervised as long as the activity is low intensity. Libraries are opening but will be restricted to 15 per cent max capacity.

Since the cases have been trending slightly upward the past few days, most of the original stage 2 re-opening plan was delayed until stage 3. Hotels, banquets, conference centres, retail services and children’s sports will be delayed.

Alberta reported 291 new COVID-19 cases yesterday along with 27 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant.

The Edmonton Oilers were once again shut out 3 – 0 by the Toronto Maple Leafs last night. This is the second loss without scoring for the Oilers against Toronto in a row. This is the second of the three game-set against Toronto. The final game will be played tomorrow at 5 PM.

Golden Globe Numbers

Award shows are being watched less and less over the past few years and the recent Golden Globe Awards were no exception. Hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, this year’s Golden Globes averaged a very low 5.42 million viewers, down over 60 per cent from last year’s 14.76 million viewers.
