COVID-19

Alberta reported 328 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday and also added 9 deaths caused by the disease, bringing the province’s total death toll to 1,827 . Active cases in the province dropped slightly and are now sitting at 4,758 people infected. Of those, there are currently 321 Albertans in hospital and 53 in intensive care.

The Edmonton zone has 1,115 active cases while Calgary is sitting at 1,669. As of right now, Alberta has administered 169,441 COVID-19 vaccines.

Variant cases in the province are up slightly, with 278 total cases. Most of these are of the U.K. variant and only 7 cases are confirmed to be the new South African variant. Canada’s chief public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, says the country’s efforts to fight COVID-19 are paying off, but we sit at a critical juncture in the fight against the new fast spreading COVID-19 variants.

Some Texas power and gas companies are even telling their customers to switch their service to a competitor with lower rates until they’ve sorted the issue.
