  • The school divisions in Alberta are submitting policies to the Provincial Government on how they will be making their schools more LGBTQ friendly and accepting. THIS school division (among others) has decided not to though, and it’s causing some controversy.

  • Now, we aren’t sure if it’s because Fort Vermilion School Division (and other smaller divisions) are anti-LGBTQ, or if it’s something else that isn’t as controversial.

  • But the fact that they said “the decision was made unanimously by the board” makes us pause and wonder…

  • UPDATE: We have had some listeners explain the whole situation a little better to us though. It’s not that the School Division is against LGBTQ students, it’s that they already have policies in place that encompass all the students no matter what race, gender, etc. So the changing policy would mean singling out one group only.

  • Let’s make this clear, this is a confusing topic to discuss. Our stance on the Pepper & Dylan Show is well known, but we also understand that this may not necessarily be about whether people are FOR or AGAINST LGBTQ, but rather people are concerned as to how they can make a policy that will work for everyone…?

  • Education Minister Dave Eggen will be meeting with the Fort Vermilion School Division to hopefully help them with the policy.

  • We aren’t political scientists here, so if you have a bunch of questions about this please go to CBC.com <<<

  • Happy Friday!
