Scientists now believe an asteroid called 101955 Bennu might be headed straight for Earth. The date of impact has been set at 2175. That gives us 159 years.

York University astrophysics and astronomy professor Paul Delaney told CTV:

“It is what we call an Earth-crossing asteroid, these are what we call extinction-level objects, if they were to come in contact with us, you’d have the same sort of scenario as the dinosaurs all over again.”

The chances of it actually hitting earth are 1-in-2,700…and NASA is sending a mission out to collect samples from Bennu.

So, this is “real – deal” enough that NASA is taking some precautions, but you can feel safe because precautions ARE being taken AND 1 in 2,700 is a large ratio.
