Alberta might not be switching the clocks this spring, or fall, or really…ever!

Deputy premier Sarah Hoffman revealed in an interview that the government is “very interested” in removing the time change. They based this change on input from the public and the New Democratic Party councils discussions.

“The direction that was given by party members was that they want us to engage with Albertans on which time zone we end up landing in but that they’re interested in getting rid of changing the clocks.”

Right now Alberta follows Mountain Time, in which we spring forward and fall backwards.

Hoffman also said, “I don’t know many people who like changing their clocks. I don’t know many people who like losing an hour of sleep … I regularly, particularly from young families, hear about the impact on their children, their schedules, their personal perception of their health and wellness.”

If a change were to happen, Alberta would most likely end up being in the same time zone as Saskatchewan.

We don’t have any exact dates to give you on when a decision will be made, but feel free to comment below with your feelings on it! You can also go to the City Of Edmonton’s website and contribute to the discussion about it.
