Alexandre and Christopher van den Hoef make up the duo DVBBS (pronounced “Dubbs”), and they’ve really begun making their stamp on the dance music scene.

The duo released their debut EP, INITIO through Universal Music in 2012, one year later they released the smash hit, ‘Tsunami’, which they performed at number of festivals that year.

 

 

The creator of the song was initially unknown but in August 2013, BBC Radio 1 host Pete Tong revealed that it was the work of DVBBS and Borgeous; the song was named “the most played tune at 2013’s Tomorrowland” by Billboard.

 

 

Their debut EP INITIO has dubstep and reggae influences as the duo performed ska, punk rock and reggae bands before forming as DVBBS.

They are prolific performers, as they’ve performed nearly 250 dates per year over the last few years.

Some of those festivals include Tomorrowland, TomorrowWorld, EDC Las Vegas, and Miami’s Ultra Music Festival where they performed with other EDM stars such as Tiesto, Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki and NERVO.

 

 

In December, they released a six song EP titled, Beautiful Disaster.

Alex spoke about their musical process saying, “I consider myself more of a songwriter: melodies, guitar, beats and vocals. While Chris is behind the engineering and production. That’s where the records come from: putting our heads in one place. We fight a lot and we bicker a lot. But because we’re so honest with each other—we are so competitive—the end product goes where we need it to go.”

Some of their more recent hits include ‘La La Land’, ‘Gold Skies’ and ‘Angel’.

 

 

Last year, they launched their own record label/apparel line KANARY and they say they are just getting started, “We’re not just putting out 100 tracks just to have one catch at radio and then call ourselves a record label…We’re going to put out our material, and different talent that we find all over the world. We want to be here in 20 years. We want to put out things people respect.”
