Have you read LION?

Lion-movie

After having watched the movie Lion and having read the book, I highly recommend you take the time and read Saroo Brierley’s incredible survival story.

His journey to find his family after being separated from them for 25 years,  literally rocked me to tears!

The story of Lion itself brought out so many underlying emotions in me.

The story was so powerful, genuine, full of hope, love and passion that even a movie was made about it, which by the way received Oscar nominations.

The vivid descriptions of the living conditions of children like Saroo in India really woke me up and made me realize the extent of child  poverty in India.

Even though there have been many stories written about lost children, this particular story really detailed the poor conditions in Calcutta India and the wretched life that many children have to endure. It really tugged at my heart.

The good fortune was Saroo dodged the dangers of Calcutta and by accident wound up in an orphanage 1000 km from his home having been lost .

The exciting part of the story was reading about the power of Saroo’s love for his  mother and how it drove him to pursue to find her after 25 years.  In the meantime he fell on the good fortune of being adopted by a New Zealand couple .

The story of Saroo growing up in such poverty in India and suffering inspired me to want to help the poor in India.

Now, was that the intent of the book.  Not at all.  However, it goes to show you how reading has the power to move people in some way.  That is why we need to make reading a priority in our life.
